PIF was honoured to collaborate with Seoulurim Church in a meaningful and multifaceted cultural exchange that spanned several days. This recent initiative brought together youth and adults from both the Turkish and Korean communities, united by a shared commitment to dialogue, understanding, and friendship.
The first component of the collaboration featured an insightful presentation delivered by PIF’s Youth and Community Engagement Coordinators. The session was attended by a visiting group of young people and adults from Korea during their tour of New Zealand. The presentation introduced the basics of Islam, highlighting the shared values and moral teachings found in both Islam and Christianity. In addition, the audience was introduced to the mission and work of PIF, which operates under the pillars of dialogue, education, and service. The session also included an overview of the Hizmet movement, which emphasizes interfaith dialogue, social responsibility, and peaceful coexistence.
To further deepen the experience, the group was welcomed at a local mosque, where they learned about the mosque’s role in community life and the daily practices of Muslims. It was an engaging and respectful encounter that allowed for open questions, honest conversations, and mutual curiosity.
The collaboration culminated in a remarkable Evening of Friendship, a Turkish–Korean celebration hosted by PIF in partnership with Seoulurim Church. This cultural night featured a rich programme of musical performances, instrumental pieces, traditional singing, and theatrical expressions.. The evening celebrated not only cultural heritage but also the warmth of human connection.
Guests were treated to a delightful fusion dinner, with traditional Turkish and Korean dishes that symbolised the hospitality and generosity central to both cultures. The event was a heartfelt reflection of unity in diversity, and a living example of Aotearoa New Zealand’s inclusive spirit.
This series of events stands as a testament to the power of intercultural and interfaith engagement. It highlighted how shared values—such as compassion, respect, and service—can bring communities closer together. PIF remains committed to building bridges across faiths and cultures, and we are deeply grateful to Seoulurim Church for their partnership in making this journey of friendship possible.
