Holy Trinity Cathedral hosted the 4th annual ‘Iftar at the Cathedral’ on the 3rd of May. Pearl of the Islands Foundation’s members were invited to this magnificent event along with other communities.
Reverend Ivica Gregurec was the Master of Ceremony for the evening.
The event started with karakia, performed by Bishop Ross Bay.
With the sunset dinner was served.
Followed by the welcome speech of Very Reverend Anne Mills, Diocese of Holy Trinity Cathedral. Then Mr Meng Foon’s inspirational speech took place.
Amna Ibrahim recited Al-Fatiha from the Holy Qur’an (1:1-7) followed by Olga Bernstein from Beth Shalom Progressive Synagogue with Hebrew scriptures (Parashat Vayera, Genesis 18:1-4) and Reverend Dianne Miller-Keeley from the Holy Trinity Cathedral with Christian Scriptures (Matthew 25:31-40).
Later on, Iman Shafiq from the Ahmadiyya community introduced Kuranu Tapu. The Holy Qur’an was translated to te Reo Māori by Shakil Monil, a Pakistani who learned Māori while living in Nigeria. Iman Shafiq also shared the journey of the book.
Members of the Cathedral performed beautiful singing which was joined by all. Then floor reflections by Reverend Kerry Davis, Naomi Johnson and Yasir Demirbas were conducted. Before the event concludes, Dr Sahib Rasulov from PIF and A representative from the Ahmadiyya community presented the vote of thanks.
This magnificent event concluded with the exchange of gifts and a joint prayer by people from all religions.
